Official Windows 7 Packaging Images

Microsoft has finally made an official announcement regarding the packaging for Windows 7. A few weeks ago, retail box images were posted on Microsoft’s Store website. The packaging appears to be exactly the same as the ones that were leaked a while back.

Microsoft has said that the Windows 7 box will come with three elements: the plastic case, the paper sleeve, and a simple Getting Started guide. Upon seeing the large amount of packaging, many were quick to criticize the amount of waste contributed for one simple Windows 7 disk. Microsoft has said that the new packaging will reduce waste:

The plastic case protecting the Windows 7 disk is lighter and is recyclable. The packaging itself has a 37% weight reduction and the econometrics score has improved by 50% over it’s predecessor.

More retail box shots can be found here. Microsoft has yet to release information regarding pricing for Windows 7. The company recently hinted towards the RTM being signed off sometime by mid July to the end of July. Current rumors point to the end of June and mid-July as possible RTM sign off dates.
