Rumor:Windows 7 to be sold on USB thumb drives

iunie 27 09:40 2009

A new rumor suggests that Microsoft is considering the possibility of delivering Windows 7 via USB thumb drives. Currently there are only two methods of obtaining Windows 7: via retail or via download. A USB thumb option would ease the installation process for netbook customers that don’t have the liberty of installing via a CD if they choose to purchase a retail version. CNet posted the rumor when they received a tip from a source saying that the move is still under consideration. However, Senior Vice President Bill Veghte had said in an interview earlier that Microsoft had nothing to announce related to this matter.

A USB Drive option would offer the simplest way of installing Windows 7 on a netbook. This could also be done manually as beta testers have been doing since the beta, but it would be an inconvenient task for many Windows 7 customers on netbooks.
